It's a flawed master that even Ray Janos can't fix. I need to complain to Sony Music about my disappointment with this pressing, no matter how many tracks there are that have really good sound quality.

Of course, let's not forget that the tinny needledropped version of "Hocus Pocus" found here is an unforgivable sin.

Record label laziness at its finest - you can make money off of Baby Driver merchandise all you want, but you don't want people venting their disappointment to you at the release quality, so at least put some effort into using a decent digital source.

I don't think the inner sleeves are the kind that'll harm the record The vinyl doesn't exactly have the lowest noise floor, but it's low enough to be negligible and only audible in-between tracks - and luckily for me, it has no blemishes other than a bit of audible crackle throughout side 2.

The second record got a little warped in transit, but fortunately, it's minor. I'm just glad I didn't get a copy that's as noisy as numerous others have reported, given that this appears to be pressed by United, and their pressings are a bit of a crap shoot.

Admittedly, I knew beforehand that this was cut from a digital source, but I had absolutely no idea that I'd be this disappointed with the sound quality of this release, given that all of the songs sound so good in the movie they are derived from digital sources WAY better than the ones used for this pressing!

I guess I was right to be concerned about this being longer than normal for a double-LP with regular lacquer cuts. Soundwise, while most of the album is listenable, it's a rather up 'n' down affair.

On the other hand, JSBX's "Bellbottoms", the centrepiece of the movie's awesome opening scene, clearly suffers the VERY worst from audible compression: it absolutely doesn't jump out of the speakers, with a totally boxed-in soundstage.

This song absolutely deserves a presentation with a fuller, more open dynamic range, as well as a clearer high end, than the travesty featured on this vinyl pressing.

Worse yet, the fake-stereo version of "Harlem Shuffle" featured on the album is saturated in muddy reverb, and it suffers from some of the worst tape hiss I've ever heard.

It's drab in comparison to the warm, clear mono mix heard in the movie. All of these artifacts are audible in the version of this song found on the included MP3 download for this album.

I'm tellin' ya, this shit is bananas. Other than those comically bad screw-ups, the vinyl version of the Baby Driver soundtrack is listenable, but at moments, the sonic presentation just doesn't recapture the full measure of the excitement and tension of one of the most iconic movies of Still, the overall sound quality is not so bad that it'll end up "taking up room in my collection gathering dust", as one other reviewer mentioned in his Discogs comments for the EU pressing.

As the needle slowly trawls its way through each side, each song still conjures up memories all of the key moments in Edgar Wright's ever-unforgettable cinematic labour of love, regardless of the notable sacrifice of intensity in the mastering.

For that reason, this representation of the artfully-curated soundtrack to Baby Driver is good to get if only for the fact that it allows you to listen to almost all of the songs in the movie sequentially.

Even so, the very next day, I listened to an original Canadian pressing of Lament by Ultravox, and it outshined the Baby Driver vinyl in every way.
