If you want to be entertained for 15 minutes, then I suggest this movie. If you want to watch an unpredicted, plot-thickening movie, then I suggest saving your time and watching something else.

The original movie was was pretty good. Whoever wrote this mess should have stuck to the things that made the first movie good.

First to go was the christian frame of reference. In the original, all of the framing for the possession was in a christian context, even if the one performing the exorcism didn't believe what he was saying, what he said was more or less normal christian doctrine with few deviations and thus the viewer understood events through that context.

This sequel barely even mentions christian thought, and instead, the main character turns to vodou for protection. Not only does this break the framing of the original movie, but there is no attempt at reframing it.

In reality it is precisely the opposite, different religions are at most superficially similar, but the deeper you go, you find they are foundationaly different int their view of the world.

My next issue with this movie is the over reliance on jump scares. The first movie built tension fairly well leaving jump scares only for action intensive portions.

But like any lazily written horror movie, this one just sprinkles them around the entire movie from start to finish. Finally, this movie had the chance to expand on the character development of the demon and failed to do so.

All you get is the vague apocalyptic notion imprinted upon you at the end. What was his ultimate goal and why did he need to posses the girl for the ritual in the first movie?

We will never know, because the demon in this movie is 1 dimentional, let me possess you and we will chase death and destruction.

No real explanation of why she has to "let him" this time, alhough that he does is critical to the entire movie. In conclusion. I don't know if this was written by the same person who wrote the last one.

But this was a shotty run of the mill horror movie same as all of the others out there only worse because it actively circumvents its own narrative.

Loved it. I would watch this again. The ending was what sealed me in for 5 stars! I watched both parts in a row and it made sense, but I still have questions I like when stories don't tell me everything.

Killed it. One person found this helpful. Well written and directed with a lot of unexpected jumps and bumps along the way. If you're looking for a good startle that'll make you flip your popcorn more than once, this will do.

The director was able to get great acting to come together with good scares and some unique material with great script writing.

It also has a great ending. I really enjoyed this movie and recommend it. The whole purpose of a movie sequel is to capture that feeling the first one gave us.

First off, there was no climax in this movie — it was all just a long, boring hour of walking around and sounds of moaning. I have so many questions: Was I the only one that thought that Cecile girl just kind of came out of nowhere?

Who was she? Who were those two dudes at the end? What was the whole deal with the Chris, pastor, and the blonde chick in the house? Oh, yea, and that demon baby?

No mention at all in this movie except maybe a two-second flashback. What was the deal with Nell setting everything on fire?
