To give some background: Before Armageddon, a group of humans had been sent off to Mars where they became infected with a virus on that essentially turned them into vampires.

When they returned to Earth as vampires after Armageddon, this proved to be problematic for the humans who had remained on Earth resulting in the current ongoing war between humans and vampires.

At first sight, the main character, Father Abel Nightroad seems like this simple-minded and endearingly awkward priest.

However, there is much more to him than meets the eye. Abel is actually a rare type of vampire called a Crusnik that feeds on the blood of other vampires.

A few episodes into the series he comes across the doe-eyed yet feisty Sister Esther. The two ultimately partner up serving on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church, which is the major military power for the humans.

If you're jumping into this series without having read the manga, I recommend doing a bit of research so the story is less hazy.

A lot of references are made to different wars and historical event, and there were definitely times I found myself a little lost.

Overall, I really liked the storyline and the animation. Although futuristic, the eastern european style buildings and landscape gave the series a medieval feel.

There were certain aspects of the plot that definitely had some parallels to historical events, such as the inquisition and the crusades. The background music also lent itself to the theme.

I thought it was very clever how the Vatican and biblical concepts were incorporated into the anime. I also appreciate how the major characters developed as the series unfolded.

There were certainly flaws, but I'm not going to harp on them. I found the political intrigue and interesting characters quite entertaining.

With the exception of the show being cut short, it was fun and entertaining. I liked the characters, the art is good, the music is somewhat fitting, and it keeps your interest.

The main flaw is that Abel Nightroad white-haired guy on the front seemingly has infinite power that comes out of no where and just destroys everyone with ease with the exception of the last fight which you don't even get to see the end of because of the show being cut so short.

Alright, here is the low down on this box set The studio who produced the animation, Gonzo, is known for skillfully blending CG animation and cell-shaded hand drawn animation.

Both styles of animation blends very well in this one. The background artwork is very skillfully rendered and is beautiful.

Nice variation of soft and bold colors. The character and mecha designs are very good as well. Overall, the animation as a whole is very pleasing to watch throughout the entire series.

Anime in full HD is indeed a great thing and is how anime should be seen. The background music BGM fits in very well with the theme of the story and every situation that occurs.

The opening and ending songs, which are vocal ones, are very good. I really like the opening song, Dress bloody trinity mix , a lot. It is a gothic rock-style song which fits very well with the vampire theme of the show.

As far as the sound effects, they are also done very well. The firing of a gun, the sound of an explosion, the acceleration of a airship, the crumbling of a building, and etc all sound like they should.

Also, the spoken dialogue is recorded and reproduced in excellent quality. No scratchy, muffled, echoing, and etc quality spoken dialogue.

In other words, it does not sound like the voice over work was recorded in a garbage can or metal shed. Not only is it about the relationship struggles between vampires and humankind, it is also about friendship, love, revenge, and self-discovery.

I found it very interesting to see progression of the two races' acceptance of and efforts to co-exist amongst one another. Some are more memorable and likable than others, but for the most part, a fair number of the characters should have grown on you one way or another by the end of the series.

The art in this Anime is great. The music is also really great. This piece is generally very interesting and full of great characters, but it falls apart a little in the plot and story development.

There is some confusion when the story leaps ahead or doesn't really explain in detail some of the plot points like Father Able's whole back story. The end is also a bit anti-climactic.

All in all I would recommend it for anyone interested in different takes on the Vampire genre. I am so glad I found this Anime on Amazon.
